Boat Operators Training 2023

Alia Investments in partnership with Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT) have concluded the 9th annual Boat Operator’s Training Program held from 4th – 6th July 2023. This program was aimed at enhancing maritime skills among Maldivian boat operators from renowned resorts, businesses, and government organizations encouraging safe operations and minimizing life-threatening incidents at sea.

This three-day training program was conducted by industry experts consisting comprehensive array of theory and practical sessions essential for navigating a wide range of speedboats with confidence. Participants were thoroughly acquainted with Local Maritime Regulations, preventive maintenance strategies, crucial safety protocols, and emergency procedures.

The 50 participants who joined this year’s training program expressed appreciation for the initiative, recognizing its significant contribution to their professional growth and advancement. The training program was concluded with a ceremonious closing in which all participants were presented with a well-deserved certificate of completion.

Alia expressed its profound appreciation to the participants, recognizing their dynamic participation as key to the program’s success. Furthermore, Alia also extends its appreciation to MIT for their enduring commitment and support throughout this project. Alia believes that the invaluable skills and knowledge gained will catalyze improving industry standards and building a culture of excellence among participants.

By providing practical knowledge while strictly enforcing adherence to demanding safety norms, Alia has made a significant contribution to the industry’s progress, showing a positive trajectory for the Maldives marine industry.

Boat Operators Training 2019

Alia Investments Pvt Ltd conducted the 6th Boat Operator’s Training Program in the Maldives from 16th – 18th July 2019. Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT) was the main facilitator of the program.

This 3-day training program included both theory and practical sessions. Top industry experts conducted sessions during the course on Maritime Regulations, Basic Firefighting, First Aid, Preventive & Routine Maintenance of Yamaha Outboard Engines, Safe and Economic Operating Procedures. The trainees were also coached and instructed on practicing environment-friendly habits; to protect the fragile marine environment. As a part of this initiative, on Day One of the program, the participants along with the staff of Alia Investments and Maldives Institute of Technology executed a cleanup program at the Boat Parking Area, Boduthakurufaanu Magu, Male’.

33 captains from various Resorts, Transport Operators, Private Companies and Government Institutions attended the training program. In addition to this, senior service mechanics and Distributors of Yamaha from South Asia and Africa (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Madagascar, and Nigeria) successfully participated in this program. A total of 40 participants completed the training program.

The chief guest of the inauguration ceremony, Commanding Officer of EME, LT. Colonel Hassan Shahid in his speech advised the captains to prioritize safety and instructed on being cautious onboard. Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. was represented at the ceremony by Mr. Umino Tomohiro, Group Manager of Overseas Market Development Operations (OMDO). The Managing Director of Alia, Mr. Alau Ali emphasized on the special proactive role the captains of today are required to play in safeguarding the fragile marine environment.

Certificates were awarded to the captains who successfully completed the program. The closing ceremony was held on 18th July 2019 at MIT Hall. The Chief Guest of the closing ceremony, Mr. Mohamed Hashim (Chairman of MIT) and Special Guest Mr. Terry (General Manager of Gulf Craft Maldives) congratulated the participants on successfully completing the training.

With an aim to provide pleasant, smooth and safe journeys to the passengers by enhancing the knowledge and skillset of boat captains, Alia Investments announced the continuation of this training program in 2020.

Boat Operators Training 2018

Alia Investments Pvt Ltd conducted the 5th Boat Operator’s Training Program in Maldives from 7th to 9th August 2018. Maldives Institute of Technology was the main facilitator of the program.

This 3-day training program included both theory and practical sessions. Top industry experts on Maritime Regulations, Basic Firefighting, First Aid, Preventive & Routine Maintenance of Yamaha Outboard Engines, and Safe and Economic Operating Procedures conducted the respective sessions during the course. The trainees were also coached and instructed on practicing environment-friendly habits; to protect the fragile marine environment.

Forty-four captains from various Resorts, Transport Operators, Private Companies, and government institutions attended the training program.

YMC was represented at the ceremony by Mr. Otsuki from Yamaha Japan. The Managing director of Alia, Mr. Alau Ali emphasized on the special proactive role the captains of today are required to play in safeguarding the fragile marine environment.

Boat Operators Training 2017

The 4th Annual Yamaha Boat Operator’s Training Program was conducted from 16th to 18th of May 2017.

Organized and conducted jointly by the Yamaha Team at Alia and the Maldives Institute of Technology, this 3-day program included both theory and practical sessions where the trainers were qualified experts in the respective fields.

Participants from 25 different institutions including MNDF, Maldives Police Service, Government Institutions, Resorts, Transport Operators, and Private companies took part in this program.

The Boat Operators Training Program is being conducted by Alia/Yamaha to enhance the knowledge and skills of Boat Captains to ensure safe operating practices. The program focused on empowering participants with manufacturer-recommended operational protocols of Yamaha Outboard Engines and their routine and maintenance techniques and skills. In Addition, it also included training the captains on:

  • Basic Firefighting
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Maritime Regulations
  • Preventive and Routine Maintenance
  • Safe and Economic Operating Procedures
